  1. Tanigawa Nico: “I want to draw a pretty boy. It’s difficult to do it in Watamote, though.”

Tanigawa Nico: “My parent found a lewd shota manga named “少年ドルチェ (Boy Dolce)” on my desk.”

    Does she/he love shota?

    • Hahah! Penis! Oh wow man, I wouldn’t have expected that Tanigawa Nico would be interested in shota.

      • I wonder how old the author and artist of Watamote are. I expect they’re mid/late 20s or early 30s, but I guess nobody knows.

        • One of them was late 20s in 2011.

    • As much as i want it to be real, do you have any sources to back that? i’ve dealt with photoshop too much to believe anything nowadays.

      • Looks like after the first one they’re releasing a subsequent volume every few months, so they should get to volume 5 about this time next year (it’s a relief since the fan-translation group seems to be having trouble).

I’m looking forward to finally owning these in English!

    Chapter 47 is out.

Tomoko: “AAHHhhhh! You are Komi-something-san who came to my home to see my brother’s dick, aren’t you!?”

This is an official announcement about comic vol.7 with OAD.

The release date is Oct/22nd/2014, but you have to pre-order by Apr/21st/2014.

    • Wow, that looks awesome! Gonna wait until it’s available in a different shop though, Amazon Japan has really high delivery costs.

    • I wonder how many volumes there will be in total. Last year I expected there wouldn’t be more than 4 volumes. This is exciting stuff.

  3. K-on! | Watamote | Yui and Tomoko are just untan-ing, by (・д・) @ NicoNico Douga

Tanigawa Nico: “Perhaps because I’ve got used to it, I didn’t feel pain at all this time (watching Episode 9).”

@SUIGADOU : “I’d rather be surprised that you’d felt pain until this time even as you are the author LOL.”

Cover designs of Watamote comic Vol.5 and the fan book.

And this is a new dakimakura of Tomoko… Perhaps it’s not for sale. ※100 of the people who buy Vol.5 and the fan book will win this daki by lottery.

    • This is just my opinion.

I think the part of “健気なの察っしろや!” means she wants others to notice that she is struggling. We use the word 健気 (けなげ / kenage), when we feel pity or sympathy for the weak struggling. 察する (さっする / sassuru) means to notice without a word.

How about “I’m trying my best, no matter what you think!” ?

    • Just one more part.

The part of “優しくされて ちょうどいい” is very difficult to translate into English, because this sentence doesn’t have both subject and object. It is too obscure to interpret even in Japanese.

I personally think she says that she wishes others would be kind to her, while they are ignoring the people of her kind and live by their own. And I think “ちょうどいい” means that she could be okay if they were kind to her. I cannot say this part well in English, though.

Anyway, I think your translation is very good. How many years have you learned Japanese?

      • Thanks! I thought that sentence is saying how normal people want individuals like Tomoko to act nice because shy individuals are often being mistaken as being cold or rude.

I have never study Japanese in a serious manner (like reading text books and memorizing vocabulary). So I can’t tell you how many years I spent on “learning” Japanese. I can only tell you I spent a lot of time watching Japanese programs and listening Japanese music, especially back in high school. Reading Japanese lyrics and trying to sing the songs helped me learn the syllabary. And since Chinese is my first language, I don’t have to make an extra effort to learn kanji :p

        • I see. I myself have been learning English by watching anime and reading manga in English for a long time. I don’t know whether I’m learning or enjoying them now.

Confucius said, “One who only knows it is no match for one who likes it. One who only likes it is no match for one who enjoys it.”

  5. About the school uniform, do girls in Japan get to choose the length of their uniform skirts and that’s why Tomoko’s is much longer than her peer’s?

    • Formally, most of the high schools in Japan have a regulation of the length of uniform skirts. In most of them, You have to hide your knees with your skirt. So the length of Tomoko’s skirt is more realistic, although some girls taking care of their appearance shorten their skirt.

    • Sorry, but please do not post lyrics of Japanese songs here. I cannot explain why in English, though. There is a very scary copyright collection society in Japan.

    Watamote_BD01_cover

This is the cover design of the first BD. Tomoko looks so adorable, doesn’t she?

And I found these items at Amazon Japan. But there is no image of them yet.

@kin_me: “If Tomoko graduate from high school, I wanna read Tomoko’s university and office life…”

Tanigawa Nico : “At first, I don’t know if she can become a office worker.”

@Phoenix_ya: “Since she seems having academic ability, I think she will enter a famous university. But I cannot imagine what kind of job she will choose and what kind of person she will marry.”

Tanigawa Nico : “I also cannot imagine at this time.”

    • The anime made her tooooo adorable. I actually prefer the way she looks in the manga.

      • I sort of agree but they got the spirit of the manga right, Tomoko’s personality really comes through even if she looks more cartoony.
