  1. And yes, I’ve turned a watamote hentai request thread into a “may I translate” thread. This is Internet Magical Powaaar !

Webmaster, I’m sorry for the bother.

  2. Reading chapter 80 all I can say is that we need hentai doujinshi of Tomoko and Emoji Shojo. Get to work, doujin artists!

        • If you get the occasion, read Poison City from Tetsuya Tsutsui, you’ll have an idea of the thing.

          • I just checked online and looks like this manga series is not published yet in the US.

It looks like the guy has only strong publication support from Square Enix in Japan and the french publisher Ki-Oon (And yet we still have to wait at least half a year before expecting the sequel).

Well, back a year ago I’d say “let’s scanlate his mangas” from my own books, I technically can do it, but I know the amouth of work needed, and even if the guy publish his manga in japanese this would be problematic if Ioose control of the scanlated material, in case of late official publication.
So for now it’s out of the question.

          • Ok, quick update from previous post, most of his work has been scanlated in english here: http://mangapark.me/search?autart=Tsutsui+Tetsuya

So for now, it lacks half of Prophecy series and Poison City. I migh reconsider, at least for Prophecy. But I’ll need good organisation to keep the files in control and some time. If you liked what’s already been released, please say it, so I’ll have an idea if it’s worth it.

    • while we’re at it, webmaster, have you read any of the R18 watamote doujins? If you have, what did you think of them? Sorry if this is an inappropriate question.

      • I read some on 4chan and Sadpanda. Though I’m not really into lewd doujins, I liked the vanilla one. I cannot enjoy incest because I also have an elder sister. I want to read not-lewd doujins that Tomoko will be happy. I wish I could draw…

        • I also have a sister, so I can’t enjoy incest doujins either.

By the way, sorry if I’m bothering you with these questions, but I’m really curious. When you talk to your sister, what do you call each other?

I notice that in anime/manga, brothers and sisters often call each other “onee-san” “imouto” “otouto” and other things like that. But I don’t know if this is something real Japanese people actually do, or if it’s been exaggerated by manga and anime and only rarely happens in real life.

I’m from the UK and in my culture, brothers and sisters just call each other by their first names.

There are other things I’m curious and would want to ask about, but I won’t unless you say I can, because I don’t want to bother you with too much non-watamote stuff.

          • I think how to address your family in Japan is quite complicated for Western people.

When I was a kid, I called my elder sister “Onee-chan”. Now I call her “Nee-chan”. In front of people who are not my family or friends, I address her as “Ane” and they usually address her as “Onee-san”.

She calls me by my first name. Only in front of people who don’t know me, she addresses me as “Otouto” and they usually address me as “Otouto-san”. Her friends who know me probably call me “FIRSTNAME-kun”.

I personally think Tomoki’s attitude towards Tomoko is quite natural as a high school younger brother. Tomoko’s attitude towards Tomoki is sometimes abnormal, and I feel sympathy for him and at the same time it’s very funny. That’s the reason why I like Kuroki siblings.

            >There are other things I’ m curious and would want to ask about

As long as it’s not my personal info, feel free to ask me. Explaining cultural differences is a good English training. But I cannot answer so many questions at once. One question per day is good for me.

      • TYSM for introducing me to doujins – I’d never heard of them before! I’ve seen screengrabs on 4chan but had no idea where they came from. The Watamote one has really nailed (excuse the pun) Tomoko’s perverted side!

        • I kinda wonder what you mean by “perverted” side.

Tomoko is a bisexual High school girl. She has lewd moment, and even cleary masturbates, like every damn people in this very planet.

You might get mistaken because she often leaks out her desires in a unusual way because she hardly have notions of social standard since she was a shut-in since middle school. But this is not real perversion.

          • Tomoko is bisexual? I know there’s an entire chapter about her “liking” one of her female classless, but that but was it ever confirmed?

          • I don’t think she’s bisexual per se. She’s only a horny teenager with a very underdeveloped body and craving for affection.

Basically, she wants other girls “assets” for herself. She doesn’t feel womanly enough, ergo her breasts fixation.

          • I used the term perverted as that’s how she’s usually referred to in forums. Personally I think she’s normal but her imagination drives her due to her lack of social contact.

  3. Hello everyone. I’m here to ask a Watamote-related question.

Recently I started reading the Watamote anthology by various authors and artist. But I can’t figure out who wrote which chapter of the anthology…. does anyone have any idea who are the authors for each chapter of the anthology? Which chapter is written by HIRAGI Yuuchi and which one is written by KATO Yoshie?

    • Here you are.

      • Chapter 1: Tanigawa Nico / Since I’m Not Popular, I’ll Become An Anthology
      • Chapter 2: Doumoto Yuuki / I’m Not Popular So I’ll Seduce!
      • Chapter 3: Tadaura Fumi / Tomoko, Dogs, Flower Viewing, And Being Alone
      • Chapter 4: Uranoritsu / It May Be My Fault My Otouto’s Love Life Has Become This Complicated
      • Chapter 5: Nekokurage / Afternoon Mail
      • Chapter 6: Hiiragi Yuuichi / Since I’m Not Popular, I’ll Reflect On The Past
      • Chapter 7: Kamihitoe / I’m Not Popular, So I’ll Have Terrible Luck
      • Chapter 8: Kurafuji Kazuki / Since I’m Not Popular I’ll Shop On The Net
      • Chapter 9: Ookubo Tatsuki / Since I’m Not Popular I’ll Change Genres
      • Chapter 10: Hayashi Fumino / I’m Yuu-chan, Yuu-chan Is Me
      • Chapter 11: Hozumi
      • Chapter 12: Sakura Kirio
      • Chapter 13: Mizusawa Ayumu
      • Chapter 14: Katou Yoshie
      • Chapter 15: Kimizuka Chikara
      • Chapter 16: Fuji
      • Chapter 17: Komado Hajime

All names on the list are family/given name odrer. All English titles, except the first one, are from the translations on Batoto. It seems from chapter 11 to 17 are not translated yet.

  4. Watamote ch.80 is out in english.
So, what did you think ? I cannot write much atm, I’ll say my feelings a little later.

    • Somewhat, I feel the translation is a bit off… Emoticon-chan sounded much harsher than I expected :/

      • She was she even judged Tomoko it’s Sad how people act like that People don’t be like Emoticon Shojo

    • Unfortunately, no. I’m not connected with them.

I’m also waiting for the translation because I really enjoy sharing impressions with you guys. But let’s be patient.

      • I’m not affiliated with Gospel in any way, but this chapter has a lot of really small word balloons, and it’ll probably be challenging to get the English text to fit in them. So that might be one reason it’s taking longer than normal.

While I’m at it I’d like to ask something. This is off topic, but Webmaster, do you know how to use a soroban? Just curious. I’ve recently been really interested in them.

        • I understand what you mean even though I cannot explain it in English.

I know how to use a soroban, because every Japanese kid learns it at elementary school. But I cannot use a soroban better than a calculator.

    • Meiru said something along the lines of not publishing any work until next week. As if he’s on a vacation or something.

        • Hey what’s up. This is me, Dr. Big C0ck.

This is just a rumor, but I’ve heard that Gospel is run by Meiru.

          • If Gospel is America, this is an extendid Holiday weekend. I can’t blame him, as much as it sucks!

          • What ?
But (s)he’s the one that run /3w/ now.
In other end, It’s true the style of /gspl/ is similar, end it started just before /3w/ demise.

Now that I think of it, it’s true Leader can possibly be a roleplay character played by Meiru. And 10 person running /gspl/ ? How come nobody else ever posted on the blog ?

          • @BaGamman

            You ask too much questions…
Maybe we should pay you a visit ?

  5. Chapter 80 is out.
    Watamote_chapter_080

It was hilarious! SimpleFace-chan was strangely cute and Tomoko was so funny as usual.

The school-trip arc seems finished or will finish soon. I wonder what will happen to Tomoko. Maybe winter holidays (it means Kii-chan again!) or Imae’s graduation?

    • Oh my,
Looks like Tomoko terorised another person. Well, great this is Yandere-Chan (not the one from the game), I never liked her.

Yes, I’m feeling evil today, thanks to [???] influence.

      • I’ll call her Yandere-San to avoid confusion between a cute psychopath HS student, and some constant masked liar.

    • I forgot athletic festival. Since they had the cultural festival in the first year, they may have an athletic festival this year.

    • Tanigawa Nico: “I don’t check my work on Gangan Online every time, so I’m usually unaware of my errors in lines or corrections by the editor. But when I read it this time, the line ‘Pig anime (aka Moe shit) are broadcast in Kyoto, too?” had been changed to ‘Anime are broadcast in Kyoto, too?”

@mikaako21: “I’m Usagi, a first year junior-high schooler. My mother loves Watamote and I became a fan, too!! My favorite character is Tomoko. Please do your best!”

Tanigawa Nico: “Thank you very much. I myself don’t have my mother read my books.”

      • “I don’t check my work on Gangan Online every time, so I’m usually unaware of my errors in lines or corrections by the editor. But when I read it this time, the line ‘Pig anime (aka Moe shit) are broadcast in Kyoto, too?” had been changed to ‘Anime are broadcast in Kyoto, too?”

Somebody notify Gospel about that! >_>

    • @shintama: “Isn’t it a big problem that an editor changes lines without an author’s permission?”

Tanigawa Nico: “Our editor basically does it without our permission. I don’t mind it. But I wonder about other mangakas’ cases.”

Tanigawa Nico: “In another manga published by Square-Enix, the name ‘DraQue (aka Dragon Warrior, RPG by Square-Enix)’ was changed to ‘Dra○e’. I was surprised that we couldn’t use even the name.”

      • lol, I know the manga she mentioned is The Daily Lives of High School Boys, which makes constant references to Dragon Quest. I loved that anime.

Still, a real shame editors still meddle with work like that, and most fansubbers or scanlators go to great lengths to preserve original intent and make references as clear as possible.

  6. Webmaster Chapter 80 Tomorrow!!!! The Wait is Over ^.^/ also it’s July Guys

    • Yay! I felt the wait this time was soooooo long.

      mfw it’s already July (´・ω・`)

    • 1 & 2 : Scary Kii-chan is scary.
      3 & 4 : D’aww :’D
      5 : LMAO
6 : At least she’s not burning your face :p
      7 : Well, a normal conversation, I guess.
      8 : What the hell, Yuu O_o ?
      9 : Reality is harsh.
      10 : Poor thing :(
      11 : Tomoko, you pervert :D
      12 – 1 : Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun reference.
      12 – 2 : What Is This I Don’t Even

    • Ha, me too. Nice.
11 page: oh yeah, you know what I need.
      Thanks for link.

      • I found different parts of the chapter while lurking on chans, but I kinda found this by accident while browsing mangapark.

    • These are the “What If” scenarios that I think came packaged with the BD releases.

  7. On the last page of the latest chapter of Tomomote,
    Tomomote_ends_next_chapter

    >次回、最終回!!
The next chapter will be the final (of Tomomote) !!

@phoenix_no_bdtg: “Tanigawa-sensei, is it true that Tomomote will end on the next issue?”

Tanigawa Nico: “Yes. We make about 4 pages every month and need three years to publish one volume. So we’ve decided we will end Tomomote when its first volume is published.”

Tomomote volume will come out on August 22nd, along with Watamote volume 8.

    • I can imagine what sort of pressure continuing this spinoff must’ve meant for the authors. Quite sad news though, Tomomote put a whole different perspective on Tomoko’s and Komi’s character, and I hope Tomomote had told everything it had to say.

Still waiting for any English translation…

    • 3 years already ?
      Man…

I’m not really sad they end up the spin-off first volume, not because of the content, but because I prefer when they add it directly in the main series as souvenir, just like ch78.
In the other end, it’s true the amounth of gags will decrease, but nothing’s perfect.

      • If you ask me it’s a shame there going to end it, but at least there going to make a volume of it. I’m definitely going up buy it ofcourse. hehe.

    • “The next chapter will be the final!!”

God, you scared me with that! I thought you meant the main series >_<

    • This could be a bad sign. If only I could ask Tanigawa Nico if they plan on finishing the manga overall? If so, how?

  8. Yay!!! Webmaster Chapter 80 is out next Week!!! Looking so forward to this!!!!

      • By the way, do you know when the next Japanese volume will come out? I’m guessing it should be quite soon.

        • oh shit, whoops, sorry, I just noticed that it’ll come out in August.

  9. Here’s an interesting animation featuring Tomoko, made by Nicholas Foxworth.

    It’s a little bit disturbing.

    • On the *chans there are series of jokes that involve these hilariously bad 3D model videos that were made by modelers-in-training. The creators think their bad creations are funny, so they post them regardless, which usually leads to a small following by several people who like to look at the videos for the surreal and subtle horror atmosphere they have.

I know this whole trend started with one series of Simpsons videos, but I can’t find it right now.
