  1. Why would you torture yourself with dubbed anime? Anyway… Good look with the TV adaption. Everything turns out fine and please… for your own and everyones sake… Don’t take what is on /a/ seriously.

    • Agreed. English dubs sound horrible as a rule and often don’t convey anywhere near the same meaning as the original dialogue.

      As for not taking /a/ seriously it’s more like you have to know what is bullshit/jokes and what is not on there, which is very hard to do if English is your second language. Especially because 4chan in general speaks a weird dialect of English with tons of idioms not found anywhere else.

    • >Don’t take what is on /a/ seriously.

      Thanks. I know that all /a/nons are actually little girls, am I right? We also have 2ch board in Japan. So you don’t have to worry about that.

      • haha, that’s right, all /a/nons are officially little girls. It’s hilarious you picked up on that so quickly.

  2. @noruto_tw: “The name of Tomoko’s school seems like a composition of names of my old school and its neighbor school. I went to Shuei High.”

    Tanigawa Nico: “I picked their name meaninglessly, just because they are near my home. I think I will change the name because it’s too long.”

    (Translation Note: The name of Tomoko’s school, “原宿教育学園幕張秀英高等学校 / Harajuku Educational Academy Makuhari Shuei High School” is a composition and alteration of names of existing schools, “渋谷教育学園幕張高等学校 / Shibuya Kyouiku Gakuen Educational Corporation, Makuhari High School” and “昭和学院秀英高等学校 / Showa Gakuin, Shuei High School”. The locations of Watamote are mainly around these schools.)

    • Good work. I am trying to learn Japanese so I know how difficult it is to write in your non-native language.

      All the pages are very understandable, with only a few mistakes. Are you learning English in school, or teaching yourself, or both?

      • Thanks. I’m learning by myself now. Reading books, watching movies and dubbed animes in English. Because of watamote, I’m watching 4chan /a/ board nowadays.

        I’m not good at speaking and writing yet. So I think this site will be a part of my training.

  3. @MottoR26: “I will nurse Tomoko, so please tell me her address.”

    Tanigawa Nico: “She lives somewhere in Makuhari.”

    (Translation Note: Makuhari is a commercial district in Chiba Prefecture.)

    • Does he say that “sitting cross-legged Mokocchi was sexy.”?

      あぐらかいてる = sitting cross-legged, right?

  4. I translated the interview with Tanigawa Nico on weekly playboy as a part of my English training. I will delete it on February 10th.

    deleted.

    • Thank you for the translation! I really like this website, great design. Keep up the good work.

      • Thanks to anons on 4chan, Watamote became famous and I could meet Watamote. So this is a gesture of my appreciation.

  5. @airitanmax: “Please tell me your love experience.”

    Tanigawa Nico: “Nothing.”

  6. @0301555 says, “Do you both have communication disorders?”

    Tanigawa Nico says, “The artist has some communication problems, and the author looks earnest but has failed as a man.”

    • This must be why the social awkwardness in watamote seems so authentic.

      By the way, I think this is really interesting, and I look forward to seeing more of Tanigawa Nico’s twitter messages in English. Thanks for the translations.

      • You are welcome. Please check this site sometimes and comment again.

  7. Tanigawa Nico says, “I read it (translated 4chan /a/ logs about watamote) yesterday. I’m glad that they still remember me (or watamote).”

  8. Tanigawa Nico referred to the anime adaption of Watamote in his/her tweet!

    @sgwlion says, “Congratulations for anime adaption! I cannot wait to see who will be a voice actor of Tomoko.”

    Tanigawa Nico says, “I hope there is someone to be her.”

    • Not any yet. An official announcement will be published at 24:00 today in Japan Standard Time. About 5hours later from now.

  9. Tanigawa Nico says, “I’m Tanigawa Nico. I can read English somehow, but I cannot speak well.”

  10. The newest chapter. The number of times this has happened to me ;_;

    I can’t wait for the anime. I am all sorts of excited.

  11. Hi. I’m the Webmaster of this site. Shall we chat about Watamote? Or I should be all alone like Tomoko?

      • Thank you for your kind advice. Because of Watamote, I’m watching 4chan board now. I know some of the people there are not polite and I don’t care so much. Let’s share the excitement.
